Mothering Sunday afterglow

My Mothering Sunday was great!
All the children came and one even took her boyfriend. We all agreed he's a real asset to the family!
We had brunch in the garden and the weather was beautiful.
Here are some pictures:

In the neighbouring field a tiny pony was born Saturday afternoon.
So when this picture was taken, it wasn't even 24 hours old.
I wonder what colour it eventually will be.

Relax and laugh!

Just something simple today, nothing to do with quilts.
Have a laugh!

And have a great week.

Not so great, that happens too.

Hi, back again? That's very good of you, thanks.

I've been suffering from migraine, so it seems. Well anyway, that's what my GP told me.
I thought it was just me having a day off and sleeping all day long ;)  Funny thing was it felt like I'd been drinking all night, the next morning, but I hadn't. I just thought I hadn't slept enough, or that it was thing thing women of my age go through. I'd grow over it!
By now it's every week: a few days in bed.
So the process of elimination has started: which pills work best for me. That'll do the trick, I'm sure.
If you don't hear from me within a week, you'll know why.

However,  I've been working on a project I had already cut fabrics for a few months ago.
I'd cut it wrong so I slung it into a corner.
But it needed to be done and now it's nearly finished and I don't think it looks too bad.
It doesn't quite have the effect I wanted it to achieve: subtle, neutral colours, but in a way that you'd still be able to see the effect of the interlocking pinwheels. I used the tutorial of Two Dogs and a Quilt, of course.
No title yet.
Any suggestions?

PS And I've had my hair cut: really short!

So many things I want to tell you about ...

With a friend I went to Wangeroog, one of the German Isles: super tiny: 6 x 1 km.
From the boat to the village we travelled by train:
We stayed in a wonderful hotel and had lots of fun!
I like this photograph the best:
The wind always blows the sand where you don't want it ...

I went to a workshop by Sue Daley; it was her last in Europe. That day she left for Oz again.
I learnt a lot, mostly to relax about my sewing: what you make is yours to be proud of!
We all wanted to learn from her and huddled around her; sometimes she had hardly any light left!
Yes, she's good at explaining, but she's not as fierce as she looks here.
Among other quilts she made the Pies and Tarts Quilt. Look here.

Yesterday I made a small gift for a friend:
My first MUGRUG!

And I've started to work on a table runner.
Made of sturdy material and double batting so it can a giant potholder too.

Too late to enter here, but I'm having a great time making it.

That's it!
Have a wonderful week!

One finished, lots more to go!

First I made this card for my mum-in-law; she came home after a long stay in hospital.

Out of these fabrics (but the bottom one) I started making a quilt for a dear friend.

With the help of tape (used when painting), for a precise 0,25 inch seam

This was the result: we were both happy!

And finally this one, a Shea Henderson pattern; it's nearly finished.

And perhaps for the first time since we put it there, the Magnolia will bloom ...

Spring cleaning

The other day something happened.
I was cleaning the house, the bathrooms and what have you.
Perhaps this was a good idea to unclog some drains: downstairs loo and the kitchen sink.
The right procedure is to wash it down with a lot of water.
The loo was easy, I just flushed it twice.
The kitchen sink was different, so I decided to fill it to the rim and then unplug it.
I had to go upstairs to get something (I needed very badly at that time, can't remember what it was now).
The phone rang: a dear friend with an important message.
Then I had to pick up F from the busstop in the village. Making the most of the wonderful weather, we went to the next (bigger) village to a few shops.
We came back to have lunch and entered through the back door.
On entering the kitchen our feet became wet.
I hadn't turned off the tap!!!!

I walked in and ripples of water started to appear!
At least 2 centimeters ( about 1") of water on the floor.
Thank God we have tiles! No parque flooring or carpet, just one big rug ...
After I sweared (sorry! And it didn't help!) ....
we started mopping
                 and mopping
                       and mopping.
After two hours of mopping, cleaning, rearranging furniture and carrying the very heavy and very wet rug into the sun in the garden, we sat down to have lunch.
Pfoei!

I thanked heaven for F being there and helping me;
It's been a while since I've worked that hard!

The rug was drying on two very old (sort of like) quilts. They've been around asl long as I know.
These had to dry too, after the rug was dry, which happened quickly inside on the floor (underfloor heating).

really old
and patched up
F left and I cleared all the very wet kitchen cupboards: threw everything wet out.
Like flour, sugar, ready-to-make cake packets and so on. Electrical stuff that was soaking as well: three mixers (As if 1 wasn't enough? No, for special purposes)

I didn't take any pictures ....
on purpose
I felt so stupid!
And actually, it's been a while since I've worked that hard.

The good thing is that (now everything is dry again) my spring cleaning is done!
(Except for the windows)

Have a great week
