Size is about 41" sq (=1 m2), made in the same way as this one.
Siblings Together:
I wanted to make Granny squares and I still might, but I thought of a much better solution. I have a few WiP's lying around and thought this was THE opportunity to finish at least one, this one (look at that date!). I wanted to make it bigger, but didn't know how.
This week I got an idea: add a piano border!
I pinned the pieced top to a duvet cover (with trees) |
The man in the shop called it 'a little mouse' (muisje) and said it was the official name. He could have told me any story and I would've believed him. Does anyone know how it'll look after washing?
I'll have to test the quilting myself. If you know/recognise this stuff give me some details please.
I hope to finish it this week and maybe I can take it to London and give it to Lynne at the Fat Quarterly retreat. But the postman is always happy to get more work.
I will be linking up with Lee at WiP Wednesday
Hope to see you again this week.
Congratulations on your first commission finish. Looks great like the first. The quilting is really spectaular.
ReplyDeleteAbout the Little Mouse fleece fabric... I don't know the name but it looks awfully much like the backing I used for my sons quilt. First time I used fleece as a backing and I have to admit it is awfully soft and nice. Often I find myself stealing his quilt when he's in bed just because it feels so lovely. I have to admit though I don't like the look of it so much. The colors are sort of hard and synthetic. But the softness... oh my!
If it is the same it washes perfectly - no problems. The only thing is that it makes a mess all over when cutting it but as soon as you bind it it's fine.
It might be a bit like minky to sew with - lots of pins to stop it moving. I didn't even bother using batting with mine as it is quite thick and it made my quilt even more drapey, which I was after.
ReplyDeleteI love your commissioned quilt, it's absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure the sponsor will be very happy with it!
The backing looks like minkee to me, if you have a quick google, I'm sure I've seen loads of tips and tricks for quilting with it

ReplyDeleteThe way the colors change on the green and orange quilt is quite striking. Great idea to use WIPs for Siblings Together, I have thought of that myself and hope to still act on it for a local charity. Gorgeous circular quilting on the other.
